Pro Bono & Community Service. ‘Justice begins with showing up.’ Behind every legal matter is a person — a family facing eviction, an immigrant navigating an unfamiliar system, a nonprofit doing good. Your time and expertise can change the course of someone’s life. New in 2026 — California attorneys are now required to report annual pro bono hours.
Pro Bono Opportunities
California Pro Bono Portal is a centralized online platform designed to match volunteers with pro bono opportunities across the state. Built in collaboration with legal service organizations, law firms, and law schools, the portal serves as a hub for over 50 legal services organizations, offering 600+ opportunities in more than 20 practice areas. Its mission is simple: increase access to free, high-quality legal services for people of limited financial means and vulnerable populations.
Mock Trial
Mock Trial is an academic event provided for high school students. The hands-on educational program was created to help students acquire a working knowledge of our judicial system, develop analytical abilities and communication skills, and gain an understanding of their obligations and responsibilities as participating members of our society… Students argue a pre-trial motion, direct and cross-examine witnesses, make objections and present an opening statement and closing argument. The Mock Trials’ scorers are made up of Bay Area deputy district attorneys and deputy public defenders, as well as public-sector, private-practice, and corporate attorneys.
